It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog and now that I’ve ordered a Waterrower rowing machine, it’s time to start again.
I want to document my experiences with the rowing machine, how I train with it and what effect it will have. True to the lyrics “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” by Daft Punk, it should be an incentive to get the couch potato body in shape. We can’t wait to see to what extent this goal is achieved 🙂
How did the Waterrower come about?
The American entrepreneur and author Jim Rohn is credited with the legendary quote:
You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.
So one of my former work colleagues probably already had an influence when he enthusiastically told me about the Waterrower and how it has now transformed his body for the better.
I have to admit that I’m not really a fan of fitness equipment and have so far tended to belong to the bodyweight training camp. The book “You are your own gym” by Mark Lauren adorns my bookshelf and I have been doing the exercises weekly in my living room at regular and irregular intervals for many months, the app that supports this once cost €5 – you can’t get a personal coach for less.
I’ve also been running once a week for years, usually between 4 and 10 km, I have a set routine for this and I’m drawn outside in all weathers. However, when it’s really grubby outside or slippery because of snow and ice, I always wonder what substitute for cardio training I could think of.
Exactly two years ago, I asked my better half if she’d consider renting a Waterrower for a few months to see if it would be something for us. At the time, she wasn’t convinced, so I focused on other sporting activities.
Then my in-laws started thinking about getting a rowing machine and ultimately decided on the WaterRower. It was the perfect opportunity to train without any hurdles and get a feel for it. It finally took more than a year before my wife finally gave us the clincher for buying one. Yesterday, I ordered the WaterRower, the “WaterRower Performance Ergometer” version.
In another blog post I will describe why I chose this version.
In the coming weeks and months, I will report on this blog as the journey continues.
